In this lecture, we will consider the emergence and development of modern art in the Arab World at the turn of the twentieth century. We will take a look at the general picture, and learn about early masters, the introduction of easel painting to the region, establishment of art schools in Arab states, and the various avenues through which artists received their training. We will also consider the challenge of conducting research on modern Arab art today-both practical and methodological.
