Between Lands and Seas

Dia Batal, 17 March -18 April 2018

Dia Batal

Vernissage: 17 March, 6pm-9pm
Exhibition Dates: 17 March – 18 April 2018

Between Lands and Seas is Dia Batal’s first solo exhibition in Dubai; it features recent and never before seen artworks. The exhibition will open with a reception for the artist on Saturday, March 17, from 6pm – 9pm. The opening will coincide with the opening of the Sikka Art Fair, also located in Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.

In this exhibition Dia Batal explores notions of belonging, identity, and what constitutes the meaning of home. Borrowing texts from poetry, literature, and narratives from her own family history, she investigates, using materials such as paper and metal, the meaning of home as an internal point of orientation. The artworks also examine the significance of involuntary departures from a homeland, and what remains with us along those routes of departures.

The exhibition will feature drawing, collage and silkscreen on paper, and sculpture in metal.

Batal will be available for interviews and tours from 17th March to the 23rd of March, 2018.
