Tucson-based Japanese-American artist Colleen Quigley’s solo exhibition, The Peculiar Seduction of Scattering Light, presents an installation that delves into the interplay between machine-made digital technology and handcrafted analog techniques. Through the sensorial power of materials, Quigley offers an interactive and imaginative experience that invites viewers into a world where light and form converge.
Drawing inspiration from geometric shapes, color, and patterns found in the natural world, Quigley creates spatial compositions that reflect subtle shifts in light, color, and pattern. Her work captures the continuous mutation of these elements, encouraging viewers to explore the installation from multiple angles and perspectives, revealing new iterations and experiences with each encounter.
Quigley earned her BFA in Sculpture from the University of the Arts inPhiladelphia, Pa., U.S.A., and her MFA in Printmaking from Tokyo Geijutsu Daigaku (Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music),in Tokyo, Japan. Her practice in sculpture/installation uses a broad range of media including painting, digital technology, ceramics, and encaustic. Her work has been exhibited in Italy, Japan, the United States, and the U.A.E. Her research and areas of interests include postmodern strategies of art making in relation to themes of originality, materiality, popular culture, and the transcultural flow of objects and memory.
