Bio

Born in 1969, Puerto Rico

Solimar Miller is a multidisciplinary artist based in Dubai. Her reverence for the environment is influenced by ecological elements changing in the current landscape.
An integral part of her practice is documenting the unique characteristics of indigenous and naturally thriving tree species facing the imminent threat of becoming endangered due to land loss from urban developments, drought, floods, fires, and climate change. Through observational drawings, implements a series of processes in producing paintings and hand-silk screened artworks on copious materials, including upcycled textiles that she hand-dyes with Indigenous tree bark, branches, and leaves.

Selected Exhibitions and Commissions

Jameel Arts Center commissioned Solimar to create twelve large artworks, in which she hand-dyed upcycled textiles with native tree leaves and branches imbued by her hand paintings of endangered native animals and trees. The exhibition is part of the sustainable and regenerative pavilion ‘Tarabot: Weaving a Living Forum’, inaugurated December 7, 2023, until 2025. 

In the autumn of 2023, Miller was the artist-in-residence with Bloomberg Philanthropies and her artwork was exhibited at all of the Bloomberg venues for COP28 UAE 2023, including on the facade and interiors of Emirates Towers, the office headquarters at DIFC, and the pavilion at EXPO. Solim exhibited artworks in ‘Perspectives’ at the Capital Club, DIFC, May 10 – June 3, 2024, and created five artworks for a charity event at Capsule Arts in March 2024, as well as, thirty-two artwork highlighting the native landscapes, flora, and fauna for an exhibition with Iris Projects for Architectural Digest x Jubail Island, Abu Dhabi, February 2024.

Solimar debuted her first solo exhibition, ‘Witnessing Us,’ at XVA Art Gallery, January – March 2023. She has exhibited at the Middle East Institute Art Gallery (MEIA) in Washington D.C., FIT Art and Design Gallery in New York, Tashkeel Studio Gallery, Satellite at Alserkal Avenue, Capital Club at DIFC, and Sikka Art and Design Festival, among others.

Solimar has created original designs for Fendi, F. Schumacher & Co., Stark Carpet, as well as other coveted brands.She has artworks and custom carpets at the Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach, La Gente at Eden House, luxury buildings, private residences, music rooms, and children’s playrooms.

Her artworks have been featured in the Washington Post, The National, Canvas, Wallpaper, Savoir Faire, Art Daily, and Arab News.

Miller wrote the article ‘Desert Flora’ for Canvas Magazine in the Summer of 2022, accompanied by her largest artwork to date.

She received a ‘Special Mention’ from the guest curator, Dina Brodsky, for Create Magazine and was a finalist in 2022.
